Director

Masoud Kimiai (born July 29, 1941, Tehran) is an influential Iranian director, screenwriter, and producer who emerged during the Iranian New Wave. His career began as an assistant director, with his feature debut Come Stranger (1968). He gained massive recognition with Qeysar (1969), which helped define a more socially critical and stylistically raw form of Iranian cinema alongside The Cow. His work often portrays anti-heroes from society’s margins, using vernacular dialogue and poetic realism. Over his career, Kimiai has received international festival awards (e.g., at Berlin and Cairo) and continued directing into the modern era.
